Come July 11, the Austrian Foundation for World Population and International Cooperation (SWI)in cooperation with the Silliman University Student Government (SUSG) in the Philippines commemorates World Population Day through a series of activities aimed at tapping the creative geniuses of the youth while encouraging them to be aware of important population and development issues.
Silliman University, a prestigious academic institution founded by American missionaries in 1901 has been the alma matter for many Asian leaders who believe in empowering youth to take an active role in the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
The event will be highlighted by the following: poster-making contest, essay writing contest and quiz bowl competition. A poetry writing competition will also be held on the event date.
SWI and Silliman support UNFPA's vision ´to have a world fit for young people. As such, it is a world that promotes and protects their rights, provides opportunities to develop their full potential, welcomes and respects their voices and views, and where they live free of poverty, discrimination and violence. In such a world, young people possess the knowledge and skills required to make informed, voluntary and responsible life choices, including decisions about sexual and reproductive health.
Come and join us in our celebration!
