A Step Towards Universal Education
In 2004 UNESCO announced that 77 million children were not enrolled in school. In 2005-2006 UNICEF reported this number could be as high as 90 million. As this organization recognizes education as a human right, it is imperative that children, regardless of their circumstances, are able to obtain an enriching education.
In December 2007 the United Nations’ Children’s Fund and Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization published a resource addressing education as a universal human right for all children. The document, titled A Human Rights-Based Approach to Education for All, aims to provide a tool to those with influence in the education sector.
