Celebrities assist the United Nations Development Program in achieving Millennium Development Goals
Maria Sharapova, an internationally known tennis star, and LeBron James, an elite player in the National Basketball Association (NBA), are teaming up with the United Nations Development Program to bring more attention to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The MDGs were set in 2000 with the hope of fighting poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy, environmental degradation and discrimination against women. Placed at the heart of the global agenda significant change is hoped to be seen by 2015 throughout the world. As the deadline rapidly approaches the UN has enlisted the help of celebrities to do pro bono advertising for them.
