Say NO to Violence against Women
A UNIFEM campaign - Please support this initiative against violence
At least one out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime — with the abuser usually someone known to her. Violence against women and girls is a universal problem of pandemic proportions. Perhaps the most pervasive human rights violation that we know today, it devastates lives, fractures communities, and stalls development.
The campaign “Say NO to Violence against Women” was initiated by UNIFEM on November 25th 2007, the International Day against Violence against women.
On www.saynotoviolence.org you can sign up with your name and support this important campaign. Furthermore, you find a lot of information on the issue, press kits, facts and figures as well as reports from different countries.
UN Goodwill Ambassador Nicole Kidman initiated this call. On March 8th 2008, the International Women´s Day, the electronic signature list will be given to UN general secretary Ban Ki-Moon.
Goal of the campaign is to call governments worldwide for more action, for initiating programs in order to stop violence against women, to protect victims and to guarantee support for the persons concerned.
