Österreichische Stiftung für Weltbevölkerung und internationale Zusammenarbeit

Welcome to SWI!

Who We Are

The Austrian Foundation for World Population and International Cooperation (SWI) was founded in 1998 by the entrepreneur Erhard Schreiber. Based in Vienna, the Foundation aims at raising public awareness in Austria on issues of global population trends, reproductive health, resource consumption and sustainable development. SWI particularly supports health projects for young people and women in the South.

Austria is in the heart of Europe and holds a crucial role to bring Europe closer again to its people and to boost confidence in the European project. Corollary to this is the responsibility to give particular attention to the immediate neighbourhood as well as to global issues.
With this strategic position, Austria is highly significant in pushing for the achievement of the Millenium Development Goals and the Beijing Declaration 1995 which tackles women's rights. During this time, SWI hopes to involve itself in addressing these issues especially in key areas of research and development for Austria, the European Union and the rest of the world.
